M#13 DELPHIA M. GROOMS
Delphia M. Grooms, the daughter of M#26 James Lewis Grooms and M#27 Lodema Harvey.
Delphia was born in December of 1871, and this author assumes she died sometime between the 1910 census and a 1936 family group photo taken by her son Dallie Davis which includes her father, in which she is absent. This author assumes Delphia would have been in this family photo had she been alive.
She is interred to the right of her mother Lodema, as one faces Lodema's headstone, with the cemetery gate to one's left. The plots are at the left fence of the cemetery as one enters Hawker's [Cunningham's] Cemetery on the slag hill behind a barn across from the fourth house on the left of the Wallace-Margaret Road where it turns off the Joetown [Whetstone] Road from Mannington, West Virginia.
M#6 Dallie Davis was their only child as far as is presently known to this author and grandson.
[Author's note: During May of 1992, Abbie brought to my attention some information that a colleague of hers had gained through an independent Index proprietor. She gave me the necessary addresses for inquiry.]
I gained selected Social Security data on Dallie Davis, including his Social Security number, and an address from which to secure a copy of his original application through the Freedom of Information Act.
It took two tries, fourteen dollars, and an average of two months' delay per inquiry, but on 11 January, 1993 I received a copy of Dallie Davis's Treasury Department form SS-5 U.S. Social Security Act Application for Account Number. On this form was Dallie's mother Delphia's full name: Delphia Mandora Grooms.
It is probably herein written down for the first time since 27 November 1936.
