M#224 JOHN RAMSEY...M#225 MARY EVERLY
M#112 William Ramsey was the third child of M#224 John Ramsey and M#225 Mary Everly.
The 1782 Monongalia County tax census shows two John Ramseys and a William Ramsey as residents. This territory encompassed much of what is now Barbour, some of Randolph, Harrison, Taylor and other counties, all at one time a part of Augusta County, Virginia.
The two John Ramseys were fairly close neighbors, one on the Cheat River flowing off the Monongahela River out of Pennsylvania; the other John Ramsey having property on Scotts Mill Run, another tributary off of the Monongahela River. John Ramsey of Scotts Mill Run is the ancestor of concern to this book.
Sims Index of [West] Virginia land grants, on page 494, lists John Ramsey as having received a grant for 400 acres of land on Scotts Mill, warranted in 1784, per Land Book 1, page 298.
William Ramsey received grants of 82 acres and 112 acres adjoining John Ramsey in 1809 according to Land Book 6, pages 53 and 55.
Our cousin Betty Lou Ramsey of Belington had also indicated that Mary Everly's father was Casper Everly. Further research found in the book Monongalia County (West) Virginia Records of District, Superior, and County Court, vol 1, 2, 3, and 4 (1776 through 1806) compiled by Melba Pender Zinn, on page 274 of vol. 4 in the entry form envelope 119c-1801 of Monongalia County Chancery Court, August term of 1798, a paragraph placing John Ramsey on his land at Scotts Mill Run in 1772.
In that same volume on pages 109-111 (envelope 114c-1800, Monongalia County Court), is a deposition by Casper (Gasper) Everly tying him to John Ramsey.
Cousin Betty Lou Ramsey tended to confirm this author's conviction that M#224 John Ramsey originated in Pennsylvania, as did Casper Everly.
John Ramsey died on 13 April 1818, leaving a will in which he names: wife Mary; sons Samuel, Jesse (removed to and d in Uniontown, Pennsylvania), John (b ca. 1782 according to his tombstone, d 14 November, 1853, m Lydia), William, daus Sarah, Rachel, Polly, Nancy.
Cousin Betty Lou Ramsey states also that John and Mary Ramsey had son (M#224.9) Thomas Ramsey.
