M#24 GEORGE W. DAVIS...M#25 MARY ANN [M.?] DAVIS
M#12 James W. Davis's parents were M#24 George W. Davis and M#25 Mary Ann [M.?] Davis. At this writing, I have no knowledge of Mary's surname or family.

Family records -- marriage, death and the line -- were not reliably kept in Harrison County during the years of these family relationships, from 1850 to the early 1900's. Documenting family occasions and relationships through such court records is difficult at best.

The only information on George W. Davis that this author had at this writing was taken from census records.
A George W. Davis first appears with parents and siblings in Harrison County (Enumeration District page 198 -- reel page 397, line 33, family enumeration number 392-392) in 1850. His parents are given as "Gary" and Nancy Davis. A Nancy Betts is recorded as marrying a George Davis on 27 August 1846. George W.'s older brother Burl is recorded to be two years old in 1850, and George is recorded to be nine-twelfths years old [the census was taken in July 1850] gives George's birth date as November of 1849. No record has been found, either in court records, the International Genealogical Index (IGI), or census records, to indicate that a "Gary" Davis married a Nancy during this period. It is thus this author's genealogical opinion that George W.'s father's name was also George, as was his grandfather's name -- and that "Gary" was a nickname.
There is no record at this writing of George W.'s marriage to Mary in Harrison County. However, there is a George H. Davis of Allegheny County, Maryland, resident of Harrison County; age 37, son of Isaac and Nancy, wed to Mary F. Roach, age 18, of Harrison County, on 8 December, 1872. And there was found in a Marion County (right next door) Marriage Book -- Western Reserve Historical Society Genealogical Library no. F17X-M341M3 -- a George W. Davis, age 19, of Marion County, son of William and Elizabeth, wed to Mary E. Shredder, age 17, of Marion County, on 3 October, 1867.
Similarly, the only death record found at this writing is from Harrison County Court records of a George Davis - deceased, 7 September, 1911 (Book 4, page 37); and George W. Davis- deceased, 13 May, 1922 (Book 6, page 48).
I have set the explanation for the extent and availability of documentation record in the above biography to confirm for the reader/family member that sufficient effort has been made to determine the correct family data.
George W. and Mary Davis had seven children (to this author's knowledge):
M#24.1 James W. Davis- b October 1868- m 4 May 1890 to Delphia M. Grooms, died sometime between March 1891 and 1900;
