M#30 JOHN BROWN & M#31 DEBORAH BROWN
M#15 Sarah Melissa Brown's parents were M#30 John Brown (see ERRATA) and M#31 Deborah Wright(see ERRATA).
The only family information this author found so far was in some books of marriage application recordings compiled by private genealogists, such as the Marriage Book "O" for Taylor County, West Virginia (Western Reserve Historical Library, F17X T238Z8, Cleveland, Ohio), and what is recorded in the U.S. census records. However, Cousin Ruth Edney of Odessa, Texas, a descendant of both my paternal and my maternal lineages, has added to my lineal knowledge of the Browns.
Sarah Melissa is first recorded in the census with her parents in 1870. They are enumerated in Fetterman Township in Taylor County, West Virginia (page 13, reel page number 138, line 32, family enumeration no. 98-96). M#7 Florida Gay Ramsey, sixth child of Sarah Melissa, always maintained that she had been born in Grafton (Taylor County), and raised in Elkins (Randolph County). As with most of their kin, John and Deborah are recorded as being farmers, their farm listed as valued at $900 in 1870 U.S. dollars.
As they are shown recorded in Taylor County in 1880 (Vol. 12, enumeration district #82, page 27, line 6), in 1870 (page 13, reel page 138, line 32), and in 1860 (page 45, family enumeration no 319-313); and in the Eastern District of Marion County in 1850 (page 119, line 1), this author deems their farm would have been located in that part of Taylor County that was a part of Marion County sometime in the early 1840's.
As near as this author could determine, John and Deborah Brown had ten children:
M#30.1 Phoebe E. Brown- b 1843, m 5 April, 1866 to Isaac N. Riffe- b 1842 (see ERRATA), son of John and Lydia Riffe; at least two children: M#30.1.1 Harvey E. Riffe- b 1866; M#30.1.2 Reason J. Riffe- b 1869.

M#30.6 Deborah M. Brown- b 1851. Deborah may have died young, before she might have married, as this author found no record of her in the census after 1860, nor any record of her in the Taylor or Randolph County marriage record books compiled by private genealogists.
M#30.7 Amanda E. Brown- b 1853, m 1 October, 1871 to James H. Rogers- b 1851 (see ERRATA), son of Jarred and Emily Rogers. James' siblings included brothers Robert R., Andrew J., and Alexander Rogers, and sisters Rebecca J., Delilah S., and Berthena O. Rogers, and two as-of-1870 unnamed siblings born in 1867 and 1870.
