M#54 BASIL T. HARVEY...M#55 CATHERINE HADDOX

M#27 Lodema Harvey's parents were M#54 Basil T. Harvey and M#55 Catherine Haddox [Haddix]. At this writing, the author has no further information about Catherine Haddox's family.

Basil T. was born about 1830 in Virgina, possibly in Harrison County. Many of western Virginia's inhabitants migrated into the territory in the early 1800's to secure Revolutionary War warranted lands as payment for services, or came to be there by having immigrated into the uninhabited but fertile piedmont.

On 26 June 1853 Basil wed Catherine Haddox, who would have been born about 1831. The couple had at least five children:

M#54.1 Lodema Harvey- b 24 October, 1855, m 4 March, 1871 to James Lewis Grooms, had two children;

Delphia M., who m James W. Davis; and

Daniel Elsworth, who m Cora B. Baker.

M#54.2 Harriet M. Harvey- b 1857;

M#54.3 Jefferson Harvey- b 1859;

M#54.4 Benjamin F. Harvey- b 1862;

M#54.5 Schuyler C. Harvey- b 1869.

M#108 BASIL HARVEY...M#109 REBECCA HARBERT

There was found in the Harrison County Marriage Records an earlier Basil Harvey born about 1804, who on 9 November 1823 married Rebecca 'Becky' Harbert, daughter of (M#218) Samuel Harbert.

It is this author's opinion that Basil Harvey and Becky Harbert were the parents of Basil T. Harvey.

Widowed 71-year old M#108 Basil, son of M#216 Basil and M#217 Mary Harvey (according to county records) of Lynn County, Maryland, later married Patsy S. Stout, age 56, daughter of Benjamin and Sarah Stout, on 11 February 1875.

While there was no immediate documented evidence that Basil T. had siblings, there were recorded residing in the same enumeration district, the families of:

1860 Pruitt (30) and Mary (20) Harvey;

Benjamin (45) and Eve (45) Lyons-Harvey.

1870 John R. (28) and Anna (29) Harvey
