M#56 John Ramsey was born 5 April 1804 in that part of Monongalia County that in 1784 became Harrison County, in 1787 became Randolph County, and in 1843 became Barbour County. No doubt close by Scotts Mill Run. He died on 24 February 1885 (see ERRATA). John was a farmer like his father.

John married M#57 Margaret Digman, also known as "Peggy," some time around 1825. Margaret was born 24 February 1805, d 29 June 1907. Margaret was interred in Lambert Chapel Cemetery in Barbour County. She and John had at least nine children:
